Quick Start Information on Student Loans, Grants and Scholarships

Financing your college by any means is truly worth the effort and is the best investment anyone could ever make in their life. It will keep on paying financial as well as lifelong dividends each and every day in how we live our life both in work; and at home in how we raise our children. What you will pay now towards your college in terms of student loans, books, and room and board, will keep on paying back to you in so many ways that you will look back on your college experience as the single most life changing event in your life. I have not met anyone who feels otherwise.

There are a number of student loan alternatives available such as private student loans or a Nelnet student loan that are very good, but the student must qualify based on credit and the ability to repay the loan. They may also be required to have a cosigner for their student loan which no one really wants to do unless it's a last resort. The terms on these loan programs are very good and the amount they allow you to borrow is considerably higher then on government sponsored student loans such as the federal Perkins loan or the Stafford student loan program.

There are student loan grants which is something everyone whose thinking about attending a higher education institution should apply for which you can do by going to the college financial aid office to fill out the FAFSA and FSEOG forms. A few fortunate students receive full ride scholarships that cover all their expenses based on their past academic performance, athletic ability or some type of a special talent.

This is very nice indeed, but more and more colleges are giving away free student loan scholarships to students based on other criteria such as the Merit scholarship, which is more based on a special interest that person has been involved with. There are also scholarship lotteries which lenders lure students to their web sites. These are mostly gimmicks with your chances of winning less then 1 in 10,000. You want to search for free scholarships that award them by using more of an objective merit-based criteria and with a large scholarship data base. You can find this by going to college scholarship search. They explain it very simply and the best part is it's free to use.
